You know, there are a lot of myths about back pain and some of us think that if we lift heavy objects we’re going to always get back pain. That’s not true. It’s not necessarily how much you lift, it’s how you do it. Let me tell you the secret. You need to get directly in front of the object, squat close to it, with your arms close to your body. Stand using your legs to push up the load and your arms held close to your body and do a lift. Don’t twist or bend your body. Or you could hurt your back. Now just because I told you lifting heavy objects doesn’t always cause back pain, now don’t go out and try to lift a refrigerator or a washing machine by yourself. We have to be practical about it.
