Pain Free Friday Tip Aug. 19 – Standing Desks Are Not the Cure-All for Back Pain

We have been sitting for a long time due to Covid and being at home. And so some people think that having a standing desk is the answer. While standing desks will surely stop you from the problem we’ve talked about repeatedly with prolonged sitting, it is not the answer and cure-all to alleviate back pain. I recommend no sitting longer than an hour and a half or two hours to prevent back pain. And so it is with the standing desk, after standing for an hour and a half or two hours I recommend that you take a break from standing. Think about it, ask anyone who stands on their feet all day long, don’t they hurt? Don’t they have back pain? So what is the best thing to do? To alternate your sitting and standing so you may try if you’ve been sitting at your desk for too long to get a standing desk so that you can alleviate some of the pain from prolonged sitting. But remember, don’t stand for prolonged periods as well. So alternate between sitting and standing, and that’s the best way to eliminate your back pain.
